Steve Gove, Founder and Director of Prague Fringe Festival, Awarded MBE by His Majesty King Charles III

PRAGUE, Czech Republic, June 15, 2026 – Steve Gove, founder and director of the Prague Fringe Festival, has been appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) by His Majesty King Charles III in recognition of his services to UK/Czech Republic Cultural Relations.
The honour was announced as part of this year's King's Birthday Honours. Steve Gove will formally receive the award from a member of the Royal Family at an investiture ceremony in London later in 2026.
Originally from Scotland, Gove has lived in Prague since the late 1990s. In 2002, he founded the Prague Fringe Festival, which has grown into one of Europe's leading international showcases of theatre and performing arts. Each year, the festival brings artists from dozens of countries to the Czech capital, creating a unique platform for cultural exchange between Czech and international performers.
“I am humbled and deeply honoured to have received this award. Prague Fringe started as just an idea while at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe back in the year 2000. To have got it off the ground and establish it in a city and a country that I love so much has been such an incredible joy for me. Here’s to the next 25 years,” said Steve Gove.
This year, Prague Fringe celebrated its 25th anniversary. Since its founding, the festival has welcomed hundreds of theatre companies and thousands of artists from around the world. The event has played an important role in strengthening cultural ties between the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom while contributing to Prague's reputation as an international cultural destination.
The MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) is one of the United Kingdom's most prestigious honours, awarded to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to public life, culture, education, charitable work or international relations.
